‘The White Whale’ to vie at Serbian Constantine’s Gold Coin

Iran’s ‘The White Whale’ is to vie at the Constantine’s Gold Coin filmfest in Serbia.

Iran’s ‘The White Whale’ has been scheduled to compete at the International festival of animated film “Constantine's Gold Coin” in Serbia.

Produced and directed by Amir Mehran, the animation will vie at the Competition Program - Student category of the 2021 edition of the Serbian event.

The eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the corpses of his martyred friends.

The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.

The short animated piece is a joint production of the director and Iran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The production crew consists of character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naeemi, and storyboard creator Ammar Qanbarzadeh.

Currently competing at the River International Film Festival in Italy, ‘The White Whale’ went on screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival in China, the USA Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Best Short Animation award, and the Warsaw Film Festival in Poland, where won best short animation award.

Established in 2013, the International Animated Film Festival “Constantine’s gold Coin” is organized to promote cultural creativity of national and foreign authors.

The 2021 edition of the event is slated for July 12-16.

This year, 759 films from 72 countries are submitted. The selection committee has selected 126 films for the competition program.
